In 1933, astronomer Fritz Zwicky noticed that the galaxies in a cluster were moving too fast for what would be expected from the amount of visible matter. He suggested that invisible matter was holding the cluster together.

Dark matter remains a great enigma. We don't know exactly what it's made of, but we do know that without it, galaxies couldn't form as we see them.

Scientists around the world are working hard to unravel this mystery, and who knows, you could be the next to make a great discovery!
